To maintain the quality and longevity of wool clothing, it’s essential to care for it properly. Here are our care tips for clothing and cloth nappies made of boiled wool, wool fleece, and wool knits:
Before the first use, it is not necessary to wash our wool clothing.
Since wool is naturally dirt-repellent and odour-neutral, it doesn’t need to be washed as often. Simply airing it out in fresh air is usually enough to eliminate odours. Stains can be brushed off or wiped with a damp cloth.
We recommend washing wool clothing by hand. Alternatively, using a gentle wool program, you can wash it in the washing machine.
Use cold to lukewarm water (maximum 30 °C) to prevent shrinking or felting.
Wool clothing should be washed gently without spinning to avoid stressing the fibres.
Use a wool detergent, to preserve the natural properties of the fibres.
Fabric softeners can damage wool fibres and reduce the natural lanolin content, impairing insulation and breathability.
Wool clothing should not be put in the dryer, as it may shrink and felt. To help wool clothing dry faster, you can roll it in a towel first and then lay it flat to dry at room temperature. This prevents it from losing shape or stretching. Avoid direct sunlight and heating elements, as excessive heat or direct UV rays can damage the material.
Ironing is unnecessary, as boiled wool and wool fleece hold their shape well. You can shape wool clothing while it is still damp.
Wool clothing can shrink if it is exposed to hot water or not washed gently. Therefore, it’s important to use lukewarm or cold water and a gentle wool program. Hand washing is often the safest method.
Wool clothing can be prone to pilling (small bobbles on the surface), especially in areas that experience a lot of friction. Regularly removing the bobbles with a lint brush helps keep the material looking nice for longer.
